Roborock Error 8 — Robot trapped
DIRECT ANSWER
COMMON CAUSES · RANKED
Boxed in by furniture or clutter MOST COMMON
Chair legs, shoes and door thresholds close every escape route mid-clean.
Tangled in cables
Loose charger and lamp cables wrap the wheels and hold the robot in place.
Water tank dragging (mopping models) UNCOMMON
Roborock's own fix list includes removing the water tank and retrying — a full tank lowers clearance on thick carpet.
Outdated firmware misreading tight spaces RARE
Repeated phantom traps in open areas have been fixed by firmware updates in the past.
HOW TO FIX IT
Clear a path
Remove the obstacles pinning the robot in — give it at least half a metre of open floor.
Check the wheels
Press and spin them by hand to make sure nothing is wound around the axles.
Remove the water tank
On mopping models, take the tank off and retry — this is Roborock's official suggestion for repeat trap errors.
Update the firmware
If the robot keeps calling itself trapped in open space, install the latest firmware from the app.
