DEEBOT won't connect to Wi-Fi
DIRECT ANSWER
COMMON CAUSES · RANKED
5 GHz-only network or a hidden SSID MOST COMMON
ECOVACS documents 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz and says outright that hidden SSIDs are not supported. A mixed 2.4/5 GHz name is fine; a 5 GHz-only one gives the robot nothing to join.
Phone jumping to mobile data mid-setup
The robot's hotspot has no internet, so phones bail out to cellular and the handover dies; ECOVACS' codes 10016 and 10017 ("device configuration timed out") are exactly this, and its fix is to disable mobile data first.
Robot not in network-setup mode
ECOVACS' instruction is to press and hold RESET until a startup sound plays; then the ECOVACS_xxxx network appears in the phone's Wi-Fi list. Without that state the app searches for nothing.
Wrong password or exotic characters
ECOVACS recommends English letters and numbers for the password; a typo or an unusual symbol fails the join with codes 10010, 10018 or 10025, "unable to connect the robot to the network".
Router features the robot can't pass UNCOMMON
VPN or proxy connections, web-login (captive portal) authentication and hidden networks are all officially unsupported; simplify the network for the join and restore the extras afterwards.
HOW TO FIX IT
Prepare the phone
Connect it to the 2.4 GHz home network, switch mobile data off, and give the ECOVACS HOME app its location permission; on Android, answer "Do Not Switch" if the phone offers to leave the robot's network.
Put DEEBOT in setup mode
With the robot on, press and hold RESET until the startup sound plays and the Wi-Fi light blinks slowly, then look for the ECOVACS_xxxx network on the phone.
Pair within 3 metres and stay on the hotspot
Keep robot, phone and router close for the whole flow, and do not leave the ECOVACS_xxxx network until the progress bar passes 50 percent; leaving early is ECOVACS' code 10503.
Re-enter the password by hand
Type it fresh with the show-password option on, English letters and numbers as ECOVACS recommends, and confirm phone and robot are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Match the code the app shows
ECOVACS publishes a table. 10016 or 10017, disable mobile data and retry; 10010, 10018 or 10025, password, 2.4 GHz and distance; 10503, stay on the hotspot past 50 percent; 10006 or 10011, your home internet timed out; 10002, reopen the app and restart the robot; 3, log in to your account again.
Simplify the router for the join
Unhide the SSID, turn off any VPN or proxy and any captive-portal login, and if the router offers band steering, ECOVACS says to activate it so the two bands merge into one network name.
IF IT STILL FAILS
WHEN TO STOP
Nothing here risks the robot. Stop changing router settings once the join fails on a plain 2.4 GHz network with mobile data off and the code table matched; that is where ECOVACS' pages hand you to Customer Care at help.ecovacs.com. Have the model name and the exact code ready. And do not confuse the RESET hold (network setup) with a factory reset in the app, which also clears maps.

FIELD NOTES
ECOVACS is the only one of the six brands that publishes a code table for Wi-Fi setup failures, and it turns a vague "won't connect" into a specific diagnosis. 10016 and 10017 mean the phone wandered off the robot's hotspot to cellular. 10010, 10018 and 10025 mean the router refused the robot, usually a password or a 5 GHz-only network. 10503 is the one nobody guesses. It means the phone left the ECOVACS_xxxx network before the progress bar reached 50 percent. Owners also see 406 in the app, which ECOVACS' troubleshooting page groups with the timeout family.
The other useful detail is what ECOVACS refuses to support. Hidden SSIDs, captive-portal logins and any VPN or proxy in the path are named as unsupported, which explains most "works at home, fails at the office" stories. On band steering ECOVACS is relaxed where Dreame is strict; its page tells you to activate it so the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks share one name.
The gesture is the same across generations, from the DEEBOT 500 manual to the OMNI articles: hold RESET until the startup tune, watch for the slow-blinking Wi-Fi light, then look for ECOVACS_xxxx on the phone. On Android, the "switch to mobile data" prompt has to be answered "Do Not Switch", or you are back to 10016.
FAQ · REAL QUESTIONS
How do I connect my DEEBOT to Wi-Fi?
Phone on the 2.4 GHz network with mobile data off and location permission granted; hold RESET on the robot until the startup tune and the slow-blinking Wi-Fi light; add the robot in the ECOVACS HOME app, join ECOVACS_xxxx when asked, and stay on it past 50 percent. Within 3 metres of the router.
How do I reset the Wi-Fi on my ECOVACS DEEBOT?
Press and hold the RESET button until a startup sound plays; the Wi-Fi light starts blinking slowly and the robot broadcasts its ECOVACS_xxxx network again. That is network setup, not a factory reset; your maps stay.
What do DEEBOT error codes 10016, 10010 and 10503 mean?
From ECOVACS' table: 10016 (and 10017) is "device configuration timed out", the phone left for mobile data; 10010 (with 10018 and 10025) is "unable to connect the robot to the network", a password, band or distance problem; 10503 means you left the ECOVACS_xxxx hotspot before the progress bar hit 50 percent.
Does the DEEBOT work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
No. ECOVACS specifies 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz. A router that broadcasts both bands under one name is fine; a 5 GHz-only network is not. Hidden SSIDs, captive-portal logins and VPN or proxy connections are also unsupported.
Why won't my DEEBOT connect on an Android phone?
Because Android offers to switch to mobile data when it joins the robot's internet-less hotspot. Answer "Do Not Switch", or turn mobile data off before you start; ECOVACS lists both. Location permission for the app is the other Android-specific requirement.
