DIRECT ANSWER

A Dreame robot vacuum that won't pair is usually fighting the Wi-Fi band or the phone's permissions. Use 2.4 GHz, enable location and Bluetooth, then reset the robot's Wi-Fi before pairing again.

COMMON CAUSES · RANKED

1

5 GHz-only network MOST COMMON

No Dreame robot vacuum joins 5 GHz Wi-Fi; the official articles and every manual FAQ repeat it. A 5 GHz-only SSID or aggressive band steering leaves the robot with nothing to join.

2

Location permission or Bluetooth off

Dreame is blunt about this one; without the app's location permission and the phone's Bluetooth on, "the network configuration will fail". Both apps use them to find the robot.

3

Wrong app for the model's era

F9, the D9 family, Z10 Pro, L10 Pro and W10 pair through Mi Home; the L10s Ultra and everything newer pairs through Dreamehome. The wrong app never finds the robot.

4

Leaving the robot's hotspot too early

Officially, robot and phone must sit close to the router, and after joining the robot's hotspot you must wait for its voice prompt before returning to the app. Bailing early kills the handover.

5

Router features the robot can't handle UNCOMMON

Dreame documents three blockers; special characters in the Wi-Fi name or password, MAC-address filtering or whitelists, and WPA3-only encryption on the L40 Ultra AE and L10s Pro Ultra Heat, which need WPA2.

HOW TO FIX IT

No battery or electrical work involved in this fix.

Put the setup on 2.4 GHz, close to the router

Select the 2.4 GHz SSID in the app and keep robot, phone and router in the same room. On dual-band routers, split out a 2.4 GHz network name or disable band steering for the join.

Use the right app and grant permissions first

Pair F9, D9, Z10 Pro, L10 Pro and W10 with Mi Home and the L10s Ultra or newer with Dreamehome. Before you start, enable the app's location permission and switch on the phone's Bluetooth.

Wait for the voice prompt before going back to the app

When the app hands you to the robot's hotspot, wait until the robot speaks, then return to the app and let the progress finish. Dreame lists this as its own step because skipping it is the most common failure.

Simplify the router for the join

Use only English letters and numbers in the Wi-Fi name and password, disable MAC filtering or whitelists, and set WPA2 on an L40 Ultra AE or L10s Pro Ultra Heat, which do not support WPA3 yet. Restart router and robot, then retry.

Reset the robot's Wi-Fi, not the robot

Open the top cover, hold the Spot Clean and Dock buttons together until the robot says "Waiting for network configuration" and the Wi-Fi light blinks slowly, then pair again. Button layouts vary, so check your manual's diagram; this resets Wi-Fi only and leaves maps and schedules in place.

Cross-check with a phone hotspot

Dreame's own tie-breaker; make a hotspot on one phone, connect a second phone to it and pair the robot against that network. Success there means your home Wi-Fi is the blocker; failure points at the robot, and the SN code plus a screen recording goes to support.

IF IT STILL FAILS

IF
The app fails at the very first step and never finds the robot
→ Dreame's FAQ for this exact failure; do not run the setup on two phones at once, check the robot's hotspot is on (the Device Reset page turns it back on), then try the two-phone hotspot test. If even that fails, Dreame calls it a possible hardware issue. Source: Dreame Support — FAQ for "Failed to connect network / Wi-Fi" (first step vs second step)
IF
It fails at the second step, after the robot's hotspot connects
→ Dreame points at the phone; enable the Dreamehome app's location permission and its local network permission in the phone's settings, and update the app. Then repeat the pairing from scratch. Source: Dreame Support — FAQ for "Failed to connect network / Wi-Fi" (first step vs second step)
IF
It paired before and now shows offline after a router change
→ The robot still holds the old network. Do the Wi-Fi reset (Spot Clean plus Dock until "Waiting for network configuration"), then add it again on the new 2.4 GHz network; maps and schedules survive a Wi-Fi reset. Source: Dreame Support — How to reset the Wi-Fi on your robot vacuum
IF
Everything is right and an L40 Ultra AE or L10s Pro Ultra Heat still refuses
→ Check the router's encryption. Dreame states those two models do not currently support WPA3; a WPA3-only network has to be set to WPA2, or WPA2/WPA3 mixed, for the join. Source: Dreame Support — Failed to connect to network (first-time setup)

WHEN TO STOP

STOP HERE

Nothing here risks the robot, but two things waste an evening. Do not factory reset to fix Wi-Fi; the Wi-Fi reset (Spot Clean plus Dock) is a separate function and a factory reset erases your maps. And once the two-phone hotspot test fails, stop changing router settings; Dreame treats that result as a possible hardware fault and wants the SN code, your app account ID and a screen recording of the attempt.

FIELD NOTES

WHAT THE OFFICIAL DOCS LEAVE OUT — AND WHAT OWNERS REPORT

Dreame has five official pages on this, written in two different voices. The Zendesk articles for the newer robots are terse checklists: 2.4 GHz, location and Bluetooth on, wait for the voice prompt, letters and numbers only, no MAC filtering, WPA2 for the L40 Ultra AE and the L10s Pro Ultra Heat. The older support-site articles are chatty and add the two things owners actually need: the exact Wi-Fi reset gesture (Spot Clean plus Dock until the robot says "Waiting for network configuration"), and a two-error FAQ that separates a failure at the first step (the robot's hotspot never appears) from a failure at the second (the phone's permissions).

The detail that resolves most "it paired fine last year" cases is the app split. Robots up to the W10 live in Mi Home; the L10s Ultra and later live in Dreamehome. After a phone change people install the wrong one, and the robot is invisible to it.

Dreame's two-phone hotspot test is unusual and useful. Pair the robot against a hotspot from a second phone. If that works, the home router is the problem. If it fails, Dreame stops blaming the network and asks for the SN code and a screen recording, which is the honest end of the road for a Wi-Fi radio that has died.

FAQ · REAL QUESTIONS

How do I reconnect my Dreame to Wi-Fi?

Open the top cover and hold the Spot Clean and Dock buttons together until the robot says "Waiting for network configuration" and the Wi-Fi light blinks slowly. Then add the robot again in the app on a 2.4 GHz network. Maps and schedules stay; only the Wi-Fi settings are cleared.

Why won't my Dreame connect to Wi-Fi?

Dreame's list, in order: the network is not 2.4 GHz, the app lacks location permission or Bluetooth is off, you left the robot's hotspot before its voice prompt, the Wi-Fi name or password has special characters, or the router filters MAC addresses. Two models also need WPA2 instead of WPA3.

Which app do I use for my Dreame, Mi Home or Dreamehome?

F9, the D9 family, Z10 Pro, L10 Pro and W10 pair through Mi Home (Xiaomi Home). The L10s Ultra and every later model pair through Dreamehome. Scan the QR code on the robot; it opens the right one, and the wrong app never finds the robot.

How do I connect a Dreame to a new Wi-Fi network?

Reset the robot's Wi-Fi first (Spot Clean plus Dock until "Waiting for network configuration"), then run the add-device flow in the app on the new network's 2.4 GHz band, with location and Bluetooth on and the phone next to the robot and router.

How do I get my Dreame back online?

If it dropped offline, restart the robot and the router and check the robot is within good signal of a 2.4 GHz network. If it stays offline after a router change, the Wi-Fi reset and a fresh pairing bring it back. If the two-phone hotspot test also fails, Dreame wants the SN code and a screen recording.
